Apple Intelligence is not a part of iOS 18’s initial public release. Apple plans to debut its AI features with iOS 18.1 sometime in October and continue improving them with subsequent releases.
With iOS 18.2, Apple Intelligence will gain features like Genmoji, Image Playground app, and optional ChatGPT integration.
iOS 18.1 will mark the debut of Apple Intelligence
Despite being a part of iPhone 16‘s marketing campaign, Apple Intelligence is not available in iOS 18‘s first public release on compatible devices.
Apple is currently testing its AI suite of features with iOS 18.1, which should go live for the public around mid-October. But even after a delayed launch, all the Apple Intelligence features won’t go live with iOS 18.1. Instead, Apple will roll out more features with future iOS 18 point releases through the remainder of 2024 and early 2025.
In the latest Power On edition newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman claims Apple plans to release iOS 18.2 with Genmoji, the Image Playaround app and optional ChatGPT integration.. The company supposedly wants to squash all the bugs in the internal firmware by early November. This will pave the way for the OS’s public release by December.
iOS 18.4 with AI-powered Siri coming in March 2025
iOS 18.3 should drop in January 2025, though it seemingly won’t launch with new AI features. After iOS 18.1, iOS 18.4 will supposedly be the biggest point release, marking the debut of a smarter Siri experience. It will allow you to control individual apps using Siri using your voice. This update will apparently go live in March after Apple completes the development in early February 2025.
Alongside the phased rollout of AI features, Apple Intelligence will gradually gain support for new languages as well. With iOS 18.1’s release, Apple’s AI features will only work with US English. Over time, Apple will expand support for more languages, including German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, and Vietnamese.
