Apple began offering refurbished Apple Pencil (USB-C) units Thursday. The stylus, which works with all recent iPads, is available at 12% below the regular cost as a refurb.

Alternatively, you can buy a new one at the same discount price from major retailers. Or even better, get a new, open-box Apple Pencil (USB-C) from Cult of Mac Deals for just $59.99.

A better option for non-artists

The recently launched Apple Pencil Pro is a brilliant piece of kit. But at $129 it’s probably overkill for most people.

Apple Pencil (USB-C) doesn’t have all the features of the Pro model but it costs about half as much. And it does what non-artists need. I use this stylus for taking notes and sketching, signing documents and doing light edits to images. It’s perfect for the handwriting mode coming in the iPad Calculator app.

The only downside is that I need to occasionally plug it in to charge. It has a built in USB-C port for that — hence the name.

Save 12% on Apple Pencil (USB-C), refurb or no

When someone buys a product from Apple then returns it, it is resold after going through a refurbishment process. After launches in fall 2023, there are now enough refurbished units of the Apple Pencil (USB-C) for it to hit the Apple refurb store.

The cost is $69, or $10 below the regular price.

Built you don’t have to buy a refurb to save that same amount. Online retailers have taken $10 off the price of this stylus. You have your choice of where to buy the Apple Pencil (USB-C) at 12% below the regular cost.
