Apple is making accessing login credentials saved in iCloud Keychain in Firefox easier with a new iCloud Passwords add-on.

The extension will help autofill your saved login details and automatically save new passwords to iCloud Keychain.

With iOS 18 and macOS Sonoma, Apple released a standalone Passwords app, turning iCloud Keychain into a full-blown password manager. While Passwords natively integrates with Safari, Apple released an iCloud Passwords extension for Chrome and Edge support. Surprisingly, Firefox support was missing, which the company is finally addressing.

The new iCloud Passwords add-on for Firefox will “securely fill passwords from iCloud Keychain when signing in to websites.” Additionally, “the extension can also generate verification codes, which you can set up by right-clicking on a QR code.” The extension will also save any new passwords you create and sync them across devices.

Not compatible with Windows

Surprisingly, the iCloud Passwords Firefox extension is only listed as compatible with macOS Sonoma or later and does not currently work with Windows. If you use a Windows PC, you can use the iCloud for Windows app to access your stored login credentials in Firefox and other apps.

MacRumors reports that a third-party developer originally created the add-on. Apple seemingly acquired the plugin later on.

If you already use a third-party password manager, you should stick to it. But if you’re happy with iCloud Keychain, the Firefox extension should make your life easier.
