While I’ve focused on my own workstation just a few times in several years of handling Cult of Mac setups coverage, it’s hard to resist an opportunity to extoll the virtues of my favorite over-ear headphones while they’re deeply discounted for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I added the headphones to my workstation recently, and right now you can pick up Beats Studio Pro at Best Buy for $159.99. That’s about $10 less than the discount I nabbed on Amazon for the normally $350 cans (although you should not pay that full price because you usually don’t have to).

Update: This fantastic Black Friday deali s still in effect for Cyber Monday!

My setup’s go-to Beats Studio Pro headphones are a Best Buy Black Friday/Cyber Monday steal

Several years ago I typed away on a PC laptop propped up on a box on a messy, dusty desk. Then, after many changes over a few years leading to a professional setup, I added the supercharged M4 Pro MacBook Pro in the mix, plus an Edifier MR3 2.0 Monitor Speaker System. But not long before that, I jumped on a deal for Beats Studio Pro noise-canceling over-ear headphones. And they just happen to be perfect for plugging into the speaker’s handy, front-facing headphone jack for lossless wired listening to Apple Music.

When Beats rolled out Studio Pro headphones, the cans got excellent reviews. The general vibe among reviewers seemed to be “pretty close to AirPods Max, but lighter and with newer features.” And that was before sales started knocking up to half off the $350 cans, already priced much lower than AirPods Max ($549 unless on sale, but rarely below $450). So it’s not too hard to find Beats Studio Pro for about $170, and Best Buy currently beats that price at $160 in all colors.

The headphones are comfortable and lightweight, with just a touch of the “clamp” effect Beats headphones became known for (they used to be a bit tight for long-wearing comfort). Another improvement comes in the balanced sound, now with less pronounced bass (formerly a Beats trademark). And for the first time, Beats added lossless wired listening via audio cable, so jacking in gives you excellent audio as much or more so than Bluetooth 5.3 wireless listening does. All-in-all, Beats arrived at proper “studio” headphones, where you get natural tones that remain fairly true to what the artist intended. They’re not super swanky or extraordinary in an audiophile sense, but they’re really good. Especially for $160.
