Lowest price ever on AirPods Max headphones

Photo: Apple
If you’ve been lusting after a pair of Apple’s fabulous AirPods Max headphones, but are put off by the $549 retail price, have we got a deal for you! Apple’s high-end cans just reached their lowest price ever — if you’re OK with a refurbished pair. Woot is offering Apple’s flagship headphones for $369.99. Four colors are available: Green, Pink, Silver and Sky Blue (which I think is the best color). I have a pair of AirPods Max and can confidently say they’re fantastic: They sound great, the ANC is top-notch, and they look the business. If you’re worried about buying refurbished, I often buy refurbished products and have yet to be disappointed. They often carry the same warranties as brand new, and the only thing lost is the fancy retail packaging, which you throw away anyway. In this case, Woot is offering a 90-day warranty and says the AirPods Max are “pristine” with no scratches or other blemishes. Sounds good to me. — Leander Kahney

Near all-time low price on great Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Headphones

Photo: Sony
The one set of wireless noise-cancelling headphones we see labeled “best” and “industry-leading” most often — other than AirPods Max, of course — is Sony’s WH-1000XM5 cans. They’re lauded across the board, but especially for fantastic noise-cancellation.
And right now you can get a set in silver or black with add-ons for 18% below the regular price of $398. That’s $328, at or near an all-time low, and you can pick the bundle (e.g., with a stand and small USB port, or with a wireless charger). — David Snow

Momax’s transparent power bank: Special skills, tiny price tag

Photo: Momax
Most portable power banks look gray, black or some underwhelming combination of gray and black. Not this spiffy see-through one from Momax. And it’s not all about good looks, either. This 10,000mAh battery pack magnetically snaps to your MagSafe iPhone, delivering the maximum 15W of wireless charging. Or you can plug in a USB-C cable for 20W max power output. Or you can charge two devices at once! (The built-in foldable stand is gravy.) You get all this for just $36.79 during today’s Lightning Deal (until 5:40 p.m. Pacific). And you can slash that price down to $32.19 with code CULTOFMAC10. (Note: This is just one of the many Apple accessories from Momax on sale today.) — Lewis Wallace

The best, cheapest, easiest way to add CarPlay to any car with an Amazon Fire HD tablet
The easiest and cheapest way to add CarPlay to almost any car is with an Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus tablet and a CarPlay adapter. I’ve been playing around with a couple of Fire tablets and an adapter, and found that the 8-inch Fire HD Plus tablet is best because it offers wireless charging. The Fire tablets have only one USB-C port, which the CarPlay adapter plugs into. That means the port can’t be used for simultaneously charging the tablet.
I tried a bunch of USB-C hubs that supposedly offer passthrough charging, but couldn’t get any to work. But this cheap wireless charger works, and so does this wireless CarPlay adapter from Ushilife. You’ll also need a USB-C to USB-A adapter. This is the setup I use and can vouch that it all works. It’s great for streaming music to my old pre-Bluetooth car and navigating with a nice big screen. I love it. Everything but the CarPlay adapter is on sale for Prime Day. — Leander Kahney

Save big on Synology NAS

Photo: Synology
Backing up our computers at home was a giant headache until I bought a Synology NAS (Network Attached Storage) a few years ago. Compatible with Apple’s Time Machine backup software, all our machines are now happily backed up. Plus the NAS is great for Plex, running BitTorrent without a computer, sharing files remotely and a ton more. It’s been working hassle-free for years now. Synology’s new 5-Bay DS1522+ NAS, which launched late last year for $700, is on sale for the first time at $559.99 shipped ($140 off). This beast can be configured with a massive 80TB of storage, and offers up to 796MB/s transfer speeds. If the 5-Bay model is too much for your needs, Synology’s 2-Bay DS723+ is also on sale for $359.99 (Regularly $450). This is an updated version of the NAS I bought myself, and it’s been more than adeqaute for an average home user like me. Note, hard drives are NOT included and must be bought seperately. Luckily, drives are on sale too for Prime Day, such as this Western Digital 4TB WD Black Performance Internal Hard Drive for $104 (Reg. $190). — Leander Kahney

Get a colorful AirTag clone for just $14.39

Photo: Momax
If you know AirTag, you know the Momax Tracker Tag. It works just like Apple’s tracking tag, but costs a lot less — especially during Momax’s big Prime Day sales event. Just like AirTag, Momax’s tracker taps into Apple’s Find My network to help you locate lost items. The only real differences are the alert sound that the Momax Tracker Tag makes and the color options. Momax actually has some! (The tracker comes in black, white and brilliant yellow.)
Oh, yeah, and there’s the price: Momax’s tracker retails for just $20 (as opposed to $29 for an AirTag). And during Prime Day you can get it for just $15.99. Over 100 apps discounted on the App Store

Photo: Matt Corey
At the time of writing, 113 apps are discounted anywhere from 20–90% off, with a majority in the 40–60% range off lifetime unlock prices. All of these apps are made by single-person developers or small teams. Because of that, a vast majority of them have completely clean app privacy reports.
Here are some of the apps that stood out to me:
- Reading Time, a book tracker for iPhone and iPad.
- Kaleidoscope, a powerful Mac app for comparing changes between any two files.
- Spendy, a cross-platform personal finance tracker.
- HomeCam and other apps by Aaron Pearce are essential for HomeKit smarthomes — adding powerful features like multi-camera monitoring, better complications, storing setup codes and error logging.
- Launcher, a great way to add powerful in-app shortcuts to your Home Screen, Lock Screen, Dynamic Island and more.
- Tasks, a more powerful to-do app when Reminders isn’t enough.
- MacWhisper, the fastest way to get highly accurate transcriptions of podcasts, videos and more on your Mac. I’ve previously written about it here.
