Darkroom, one of the best photo library and editing apps on iOS, is now also one of the best video library and editing apps on iOS. In today’s update, Darkroom adds support for editing your videos. Not cutting and chopping them up, like iMove, but changing how they look, as if you were applying filters and edits to a still photograph. And the along thing is, it’s instant, just as fast as editing a still image.
Darkroom video
Darkroom has long been one of my favorite photos apps, because it offers a full alternative to Apple’s built-in Photos app. It uses the same library, and it can browse through it without important anything. It’s just an alternative view onto your existing library, only it has better options for editing. For example, Darkroom lets you edit Portrait Mode photos, applying different edits and effects to the foreground and the background.

And now, in the version released today, Darkroom can apply almost all of its edits to your videos. The only thing it can’t do is apply its depth-related, portrait-mode filters to videos.
Pro video work
This isn’t just a way to make your videos look better. You also get very flexible export options, so if you shot the video at the highest quality possible on your iPhone, you don’t have to share such a huge file. You can easily shrink it down.
The other upside of including video inside such a comprehensive suite is that you can also batch-edit your videos, just like your photos. This means that you can easily color-grade all the takes in your movie with the same settings, automatically, in a batch. On your iPhone. That’s pretty wild, and the new version also has a cinematic filter pack tailored to the needs of video grading.

If you already have the app, this is another free update. New, it’s just still free, but with in-app purchases to unlock tools and filter packs.
