The world’s most unlikely highwayman will be back — Apple TV+ reportedly renewed The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin for season two on Wednesday.
The comedy-adventure series stars British comedian Noel Fielding as a ludicrously impossible version of the legendary British criminal.
The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin season two rides our way
Dick Turpin was a real English highwayman and also a poacher, burglar, horse thief and killer. He was hung for his crimes in 1739, and was actually a rather minor figure during his lifetime. However, he became famous in later centuries as the subject of stories and plays.
The Apple TV+ series that premiered in spring 2024 turns that bloody reputation on its head by casting Noel Fielding as a gentle and polite version of Dick Turpin. He’s seemingly inept but somehow always comes out ahead of rival bloodthirsty highwaymen and soldiers with a combination of kindness, cleverness and optimism.
Fielding is best known for the comedy series The Mighty Boosh, though most Americans might recognize him as a co-presenter of The Great British Bake Off. In The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, he faces off against a self-appointed thief-taker played by Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) whose catchphrase is, ”I won’t rest until I have this Dick firmly in my grasp.”
Yes, it’s that sort of show.
Actors Ellie White (The Windsors), Marc Wootton (High & Dry) and Duayne Boachie (Blue Story) also star alongside Fielding.
More coming soon
The deliberately absurd comedy obviously found an audience — Deadline reported Wednesday that The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin received a greenlight from Apple TV+ for season two. There’s no word when the series will return, but season one started March 1, 2024. It’s possible season two will premiere a year later.
