An iPad is practically a work of art — don’t put it in a cheap plastic case. Wrap your iPad in English Bridle Leather with the latest handcrafted product from DodoCase.

It’s a carrying case, and folds into a stand when you’re ready to work. And there’s an Apple Pencil holder, too.

I’ve been testing one with my M4 iPad Pro, and I’m quite taken with the look. And the design, too.

DodoCase English Bridle Leather iPad Case review

Apple moved away from leather but that doesn’t mean you have to. It’s a classic material that’s durable and looks and feels luxurious. That’s certainly true for DodoCase’s English Bridle Leather iPad Case. It’s something an executive can carry into a boardroom and fit right in.

The tablet is ready to be used whether you simply flip the cover out of the way, or fold the case into a stand.

The case can be made for 18 different Apple models, including the new 2024 iPad Pro and iPad Air.

Both a leather iPad case and a stand

DodoCase’s design starts with a leather folio cover that wraps around the front and back of the iPad. It’s held closed with an elastic band.

The tablet is held securely in place by a plastic tray shaped specifically for each model. Putting the computer in the tray or removing it is reasonably quick and easy, and the tray adds some extra protection for the tablet. There are openings for the camera, buttons and ports.

An elastic loop that holds an Apple Pencil on the side of the tablet. Somewhat to my surprise, this loop does not interfere with the wireless charger built into my iPad.

I can flip the cover around to the back and hold the tablet in one hand and write on it with the other with a stylus.

Alternatively, I can fold the DodoCase English Bridle Leather iPad Case into a stand. It holds the computer’s display facing almost directly forward when I want to watch video, or I can lean the screen backward about 40 degrees when I want to tap on the touchscreen. Or pretty much any angle in between — there’s a lot of flexibility.

Leather quality varies. DodoCase promises it uses top quality material in this product.

“English Bridle Leather is a traditional leather from the well-established tannery Wickett & Craig, which has been tanning leather since 1867. Because of its high quality and environmentally aware ethics, it is highly regarded by top brands around the world,” says the case-maker. “English Bridle leather is smooth and flexible yet durable.”

My review unit feels great, and has the mix of perfection and small flaws that come with something handmade. The stitching is clearly done by experts.

Your color choices are the chestnut option you see in my pictures or black.

The drawback of leather is that it’s not light. I have the 13-inch version of this case and it weighs 1.4 pounds. It’s also not thin — the case is 0.75 inches thick whether the iPad is inserted or not. But this is a result of the material — a featherlight, ultrathin leather iPad case is impossible.

DodoCase leather iPad folio case does not sacrifice usefulness for its appearance.

Plastic cases have their advantages, but they don’t have the professional appearance of leather. And nothing beats the look of a handmade leather case like this one from DodoCase.

But what I really like is that I’m not sacrificing functionality for style. I can fold this case into a stand, connect an external display, keyboard and mouse and get really productive.

★★★★★

The only drawback is weight — leather comes with a certain amount of bulk.

Pricing

Handmade leather products come at premium prices. The DodoCase English Bridle Leather iPad Case costs $144.95.
