As we’ve pointed out in product news coverage and reviews, Edifier is one of those smaller companies that always seem to come across with great value. Its audio gear is solid and sounds great, but it’s on the inexpensive side of things. And that’s the case for the Edifier powered speakers in today’s MacBook Air setup. The workstation features a penguin plush toy that doesn’t just use an Edifier box as a chair, according to the user. The stuffed animal apparently rocks out, too.
Edifier powered speakers provide MacBook Air setup’s soundtrack
Redditor whiskypie101 (“Pie”) showcased the cheerful setup, which appears to hail all the way from India, in a post entitled, “Took few years to get here.” They run an M3 MacBook Air (16GB unified memory, 512GB storage). It sits on a laptop tray alongside the 34-inch LG ultra-wide display it drives.
They listed their main gear and identified that stuffed animal sitting in the mix, which you might be wondering about:
“MacBook Air M3 16/512, desk is from Ikea, Trotten monitor arm from Amazon, Ugreen MagSafe charger, Edifier MR4 [speakers], Logitech M650 [mouse], Red dragon keeb (have to replace this one), keskmat from LTT. And that cutie penguin’s name is Sir Waddleton, he enjoys listening music with me!”
So Sir Waddleton grooves to tunes and sits on a speaker, so he counts as audio gear and appears in the gear links list below. Last week we looked at the monitor arm and laptop tray combo that lines up the MacBook Air and LG ultra-wide as two displays. Today it’s time to have a gander at Sir Waddleton’s excellent speakers.

We’ve long admired Edifier, which has been around for more than 20 years, for its excellent affordable audio gear. Pie’s MR4 speakers have been available for a while, but it’s worth noting Edifier recently released new MR3 bookshelf speakers that are a bit more compact but provide clear, hi-res audio across a wide range of 52Hz to 40kHz. And they cost just $120.
A commenter correctly pointed out Pie’s 42-watt MR4 near-field studio monitor speakers should be set at an angle on stands to point the sound right at their ears. Here’s how the company describes speakers, which are suitable to studio use:
- Based on the highly reviewed Edifier bookshelf speakers, professionally fine-tuned to a near-flat responsive curve for artists and music creators.
- 1-inch silk dome tweeters and 4-inch composite woofers produce a clear, smooth, and overall sound. MDF wooden structure helps to reduce resonance and reveal the true sound.
- 1/4-inch balanced TRS input, an unbalanced RCA input, an unbalanced AUX input, and a front headphone output are equipped to connect to devices, such as mixers, computers, tablets, etc.
- Freely switches between monitor mode — to listen to true audio for music production and music mode — to enjoy daily music for relaxation according to your needs.
- Equipped with two knobs to adjust high- and low-frequency controls separately, and a convenient front-panel knob to set volume and sound modes.
