Tab groups, a feature of Google’s Chrome desktop browser for years, finally made its way to the iPhone and iPad version of the web browser.

The goal is to bring some order to the huge pile of tabs so many people keep open.

Chrome tab groups available for iPhone and iPad, at last

Apple Safari and Chrome are locked in a battle for users. Their weapons are features built into each application. In 2020, Chrome brought out tab groups first but reserved them for its desktop and Android versions. Apple added Tab Groups to all its OSs in 2022. And now Google finally added the feature to the iPhone version of its browser.

“From your iPhone or iPad, you’ll be able to group related tabs together and give them a custom name and color for quick identification,” announced Google on Tuesday.

Chrome tab groups sync across desktop and mobile devices. “You’ll be able to start a project in one place and pick it up in a different one, without losing your work,” promised Google. (This is a feature of Safari’s version, too.)

Please stand by

Google says tab groups are “coming soon” to the iPhone version of Chrome. At the time of this article was published, the most recent version of the browser arrived two weeks earlier with no mention of this feature.
