Apple apparently plans to release iOS 18.2 in early December, introducing several new Apple Intelligence features to the iPhone.

iOS 18.2 will further enhance Apple Intelligence

Despite all the hype surrounding Apple Intelligence, which Apple showcased at WWDC24, the AI features did not arrive with the initial version of iOS 18. Instead, Apple released iOS 18.1 with the first set of Apple Intelligence features in late October. Still, even that upgrade brought only a handful of Apple Intelligence features — Writing Tools, a Clean Up tool in Photos app, notification summaries, etc. (Check out our hands-on with the first 10 Apple Intelligence features to learn more about them.)

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, says Apple will release iOS 18.2 the week of December 2, as long as the company doesn’t run into last-minute problems.

iOS 18.2 will pack the next wave of Apple Intelligence features. Currently in beta testing, the operating system contains features like Visual Intelligence, Image Playground and Genmoji. Another highlight will be the ChatGPT integration in Siri. This will allow you to seamlessly pass over queries from Siri to ChatGPT for smarter, more detailed answers.

Besides this, iOS 18.2 will expand Apple Intelligence support to more regions, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom. Your system language still needs to be English, though.

No major additions to Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.3

Following the release of iOS 18.2, Apple reportedly will release iOS 18.3 in early 2025. But it seemingly won’t contain any new Apple Intelligence features. Instead, it will expand Apple’s AI features to more regions. Gurman predicts the next wave of new Apple Intelligence features will arrive with iOS 18.4 in April, including a more powerful Siri experience.

Apple reportedly continues working on integrating Google’s Gemini into Apple Intelligence, but it won’t arrive until next year. Apple is also in no hurry to bring Apple Intelligence to China. Gurman thinks this might not happen until iOS 19.
