iOS 18 could add a dark tint to the iPhone’s Home Screen app icons in Dark Mode. This should give them a stealthy look and help them blend with the system’s overall dark theme.
Additionally, Apple will allow you to lock first-party apps like Mail and Messages in iOS 18 using Face ID.
iOS 18 could bring Dark Mode to iPhone’s Home Screen app icons
Rumors indicate iOS 18 will heavily focus on AI-powered features and integration. Besides that, Apple plans to introduce small but important usability improvements to the OS.
One of these changes is the enhanced Dark Mode, which will add a dark tint to the app icons on your iPhone’s Home Screen. The MacRumors report claims this improvement will come alongside other planned Home Screen improvements, including the ability to place app icons anywhere. You can apparently also create blank rows and columns, though the icons will still snap to a grid.
Another report suggests iOS 18 could allow you to change the app icon colors on the Home Screen.
Lock system apps for better security and privacy
iOS 18 might also allow you to lock pre-installed iPhone apps using Face ID or Touch ID. Currently, you can only lock third-party banking and finance apps using Face ID. Right now, you can only lock the Notes app. There’s no way to prevent access to other system apps, but Apple could change this with iOS 18.
It is unclear whether Apple will extend this functionality to third-party apps. Typically, it is up to developers to add Face ID/Touch ID locks to their apps. However, as seen on many Android phones, a built-in system setting will allow you to lock any app you want.
