The iPhone 16 Pro could sport the world’s slimmest bezels on a smartphone. Its borders will apparently measure just 1.2mm, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max having even slimmer bezels at 1.15mm.
The slimmer bezels should help offset the size increase due to Apple using larger displays on its 2024 iPhones.
iPhone 16 Pro could feature an almost bezel-less display
Rumors suggest the iPhone 16 Pro lineup will use displays 0.2 inches bigger than their predecessors. So, the iPhone 16 Pro could sport a 6.3-inch screen, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max might switch to a gigantic 6.9-inch panel. Slimmer bezels will help Apple fit the bigger displays without increasing the phone’s size by the same proportions. Smaller bezels will also help give the phone a more futuristic look.
Apple has been progressively reducing the screen borders on its Pro iPhones for the last few generations.
According to leaker Setsuna Digital, the iPhone 16 Pro’s borders will measure 1.2mm. For comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro’s bezels measure 1.71mm, while that of the iPhone 14 Pro measures 2.15mm.
Leaker Ice Universe corroborated the claim, saying the upcoming iPhone will surpass the Galaxy S24 “to become the world’s narrowest bezel mobile phone.”
Apple might use a complex tech to reduce iPhone 16 Pro’s screen borders
A report from The Elec in April of this year indicated that Apple would use Border Reduction Structure (BRS) tech to narrow down the iPhone 16 Pro’s bezels. While complicated, the tech allows for slimmer bezels without negatively affecting performance. However, this has caused headaches for Apple’s suppliers as they are struggling to meet the high standards.
Given the price difference, the non-Pro iPhones are unlikely to ship with such slim bezels. They should still see a slight reduction in their screen borders, though.
The iPhone 16 dummy units have already given us an idea of the potential size increase due to the bigger displays. But we will have to wait for real-life photos to see how the slim bezels will look.
