Apple’s next iPhone SE might use the same A18 chip as the iPhone 16 and 8GB RAM. It will also use the same cameras as the iPhone 15.

The upcoming iPhone SE 4 will reportedly sport a new design that will see Apple ditch the physical Home button. It will also stand out for being the first product in Apple’s portfolio to use its in-house 5G modem.

Next-gen iPhone SE to support Apple Intelligence

Early iPhone SE 4 leaks from 2023 claimed the phone could sport an iPhone 14-like design. Alleged renders of the device further affirmed this. A recent report from Bloomberg detailed that Apple’s next budget iPhone is on course for an early 2025 launch.

Another report from 9to5Mac sources provides more insight into the iPhone SE 4. It claims the iPhone SE 4 will use the iPhone 16’s A18 chip and sport 8GB RAM for Apple Intelligence support. Codenamed V59, the device will supposedly sport a 6.1-inch OLED display with the same resolution as the iPhone 14. It won’t get Dynamic Island, though, sticking to a notch instead.

The next-gen iPhone SE will apparently sport the same primary 48MP rear camera and 12MP front selfie shooter as the iPhone 15.

Apple’s 5G modem to debut with iPhone SE 4

More importantly, the iPhone SE 4 will mark the debut of Apple’s in-house 5G modem. The company spent billions of dollars on developing its own 5G modem following the acquisition of Intel’s 5G business in 2019. Apple’s baseband will handle cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity on the iPhone SE 4.

The source claims the new modem will reduce power consumption, boosting battery life. This will be especially evident when Low Power Mode is enabled, increasing the phone’s runtime. Depending on the modem’s performance in real-world use, Apple may expand its use to its other devices in the coming years.

Rumors suggest the iPhone SE 4 is on track for a spring 2025 release. Given the major upgrades Apple is planning for the model, it might sport a higher price tag than the $429 iPhone SE 3.
