Apple is expanding the iPhone’s Tap to Pay functionality to five additional European countries. The feature is now available in Austria, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Romania, and Sweden.

Tap to Pay debuted in 2022, with Apple gradually expanding it to more markets.

Use your iPhone as a PoS machine

Tap to Pay allows merchants and small businesses to accept payments through their iPhones. It works with iPhone XS and later and can accept contactless payments through Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and Discover credit or debit cards.

The feature uses the NFC chip inside iPhones to communicate. Safety is also not an issue, as Tap to Pay uses the same security and privacy technologies as Apple Pay. All transaction-related data are encrypted, so no one can know what you purchase.

With Tap to Pay, businesses can do away with special readers to accept NFC payments from iPhones. Apple has teamed up with Adyen, SumUp, and Viva in the new European markets to launch Tap to Pay.

With the latest addition, Tap to Pay on iPhone is available in the following countries:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • Czech Republic
  • France
  • Germany
  • Japan
  • Italy
  • Ireland
  • Netherlands
  • Romania
  • Taiwan
  • Sweden
  • Ukraine
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

As a developer, you can follow Apple’s instructions to use Tap to Pay on iPhone for payment processing.
