Anya Taylor-Joy, perhaps best known for starring in The Queen’s Gambit, is coming to Apple TV+. She’ll star in an adaptation of the bestselling crime thriller Lucky by Marissa Stapley.

Lucky jumps from bestseller to Apple TV+

The book version is “a thrilling roller-coaster ride about a heist gone terribly wrong, with a plucky protagonist who will win readers’ hearts,” promises Simon & Schuster, the publisher. And now the NYT bestselling novel will be adapted into a limited series.

“In Lucky, Taylor-Joy stars as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past,” says Apple TV+ of the upcoming series.

British-American actress Anya Taylor-Joy has quite a list of credits in a variety of genres. She was a chess champion in The Queen’s Gambit, and an action star in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. She’s also been in The Menu, and much more, and stars in the upcoming The Gorge and Sacrifice. Taylor-Joy won both a SAG and a Golden Globe award, and was nominated for an Emmy.

Another Hello Sunshine production for Apple TV+

Lucky will be produced by Hello Sunshine, who also produces the drama series The Morning Show for Apple’s streaming service. The production company was founded by Reese Witherspoon, who said, “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Apple TV+ and the incomparable Anya Taylor-Joy, plus our brilliant creator Jonathan Tropper and his wonderful co-showrunner Cassie Pappas, to bring this compelling series — based on Marissa Stapley’s fantastic novel — to audiences around the world.”

“Hello Sunshine continues to do a fantastic job of championing women’s voices, and I’m thrilled to be joining the team alongside Jonathan, Cassie and Apple TV+ to bring ‘Lucky’ to life,” said Anya Taylor-Joy.

This early in development, there’s no word on when Lucky will premiere on Apple’s streaming service.
