Mujjo Maizcase review for iPhone
Trying Mujjo MaizCase with my iPhone 16 Pro, I found its features, performance and overall value add up to “worth it.” It’s made of plant-based “leather” comprised of corn and other cereals mixed with polyester. It doesn’t seem destined to rankle users like FineWoven did. And like any self-respecting and swanky “leather” product with a touch of swagger, it’s made in Italy. I like it just as much as I like Mujjo’s fine leather iPhone cases — a lot.

Design and build quality

Mujjo MaizCase boasts a sleek and sophisticated design that complements the iPhone 16 Pro’s premium look and feel. Available only in a muted “Steel Blue” color — so there’s a drawback, no color choice — the case exudes a professional and elegant vibe. The matte finish of the bio-leather material not only looks great but it gave me a comfortable and secure grip compared to the titanium handset by itself.
But the most notable feature of the MaizCase is its use of that Italian bio-leather. Crafted from corn and other cereals blended with recycled polyester, it aims to replicate the look and feel of genuine leather while committing to sustainability. And does it? Yes, the case feels remarkably similar to traditional leather. In fact, soon after I took it out of the box next to Mujjo’s Full Leather Cases, I pretty much forgot MaizCase was different.
And the case’s build quality is impressive. The machined-metal buttons for volume, power, and the new Action Button add a touch of premium feel and responsiveness. The raised bezel around the screen and camera module offers additional protection against scratches and impacts.
Functionality and features

MagSafe compatibility
A crucial feature for many iPhone users is MagSafe compatibility, and Mujjo MaizCase delivers. The built-in magnets ensure a strong connection with MagSafe chargers and accessories, eliminating the need to remove the case for wireless charging or using other magnetic attachments. I found it stuck securely to charging pads.
Camera protection
The case features a machined-metal bezel around the camera module. That not only enhances the overall look but also provides crucial protection for the lenses. This raised edge helps prevent scratches when the phone is laid flat on surfaces.
Button accessibility

While the metal buttons for volume and power are well-designed and responsive, the cutout for the new Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 Pro is a point of mild contention for me. The simple hole design may not be as user-friendly for those who frequently use the haptic zoom feature, as it doesn’t provide the same smooth sliding experience as the naked phone or some competitor cases. And it also marks a difference between MaizCase and Mujjo’s Full Leather Case. The latter makes the cutout more of a graduated recession, which seems to provide slightly better access to the button.
Durability and aging potential
While long-term durability can only be truly assessed over time, my initial impressions make me believe MaizCase is built to last. The bio-leather material is said to age similarly to genuine leather, potentially developing a patina over time that adds character to the case. I took my fingernail to the case just to try to see if it would scratch easily, and it didn’t (that said, I like the case and didn’t want to go off on it, like intentionally mangling it with a knife). Mujjo’s confidence in its product is evident in the impressive 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
Environmental impact
Mujjo’s focus on sustainability extends beyond just the use of bio-leather. The company claims that 98% of the water used in the production process is recovered, minimizing the environmental footprint of manufacturing. Those eco-friendly practices mean a lot to environmentally conscious consumers.
Interior lining

Mujjo lines the inside of the case with Japanese microfiber. That serves two purposes: It provides additional cushioning for the phone and helps prevent scratches on the device’s back and sides. It’s quite soft in there.
Price and value
Priced at $59, the Mujjo MaizCase positions itself in the premium case market, matching the price point of Apple’s offerings. While this may seem steep for a phone case, the combination of sustainable materials, high build quality and extended warranty makes it a justifiable investment for those looking to protect their iPhone 16 Pro with a product that aligns with their environmental values.
Mujjo MaizCase review: Bottom line is … buy it

Photo: David Snow/Cult of Mac
The Mujjo MaizCase for iPhone 16 Pro manages to combine luxury, functionality and sustainability in one simpl-but-effective product. It offers a compelling alternative to traditional leather cases, with its bio-leather material providing a similar premium feel while addressing environmental concerns.
The case excels in its build quality, attention to detail and overall protection for your device. The MagSafe compatibility and thoughtful design elements like the microfiber lining and metal buttons enhance its appeal.
However, the somewhat-high price point ($59) and the slightly awkward Camera Control button cutout may give some potential buyers pause. And having just one color option might put off some folks. Mujjo should really offer this in its Full Leather Case five-color range.
While it may require a higher initial investment, the quality, durability, and environmental benefits make Mujjo MaizCase a worthwhile consideration for your new iPhone 16 handset.
