Apple’s next major MacBook Pro design refresh reportedly will arrive in 2026. It will apparently feature a new display technology and a 2nm M6 chip.

Big redesign with new display technology for 2026 MacBook Pros

Apple typically refreshes its MacBook Pro design every four or five years. It unveiled the MacBook Pros with the Touch Bar in 2016. The next major refresh landed in 2021, featuring a boxier design, mini-LED displays and more ports alongside the M1 Pro/Max chip transition.

Despite the superior performance and efficiency of the Apple silicon chips, the 2021 MacBook Pro introduced a thicker design. The company seems all set to make amends with its next big MacBook Pro redesign.

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, in his latest Power On newsletter, says the big overhaul will arrive in 2026 rather than 2025, when some people expected it. The delay is purportedly due to Apple facing problems with the new display technology. Gurman’s report backs up previous predictions from industry analysts that said the OLED MacBook Pro won’t arrive until 2026.

Previous rumors indicated the next major MacBook redesign will focus on thinness and weight reduction. The laptop apparently will be the first to use an OLED display, delivering higher brightness levels in a slimmer package. It remains unclear if the slimmer design will lead to compromises in performance or battery life.

M5 MacBook Pros to bring minor performance improvements

For next year, Apple is preparing an M5-focused refresh for its MacBook Pro lineup. The chips are seemingly “already near completion.” They will continue using TSMC’s current 3nm node and are unlikely to bring any significant performance improvements over the M4 counterparts.

Apart from the new SoC, the 2025 MacBook Pros won’t pack any other significant changes. So, if you were holding out on buying a new MacBook Pro in hopes of a big design revamp next year, you might want to reconsider your decision.
