Fans of hit Apple TV+ series Severance — call it a surreal workplace thriller — would expect nothing less than to have their heads exploded by the season two trailer. And without too much exaggeration, that’s pretty much what they get with the video Apple TV+ dropped on YouTube Wednesday.

It leaves you with nothing but tantalizing questions. Like: What the hell are they doing? Well, whatever it is, we want in. The January 17 streaming date can’t come soon enough. Watch the teaser trailer below.

Severance season 2 teaser trailer makes you feel like a mouse in Lumon’s maze

In true Severance fashion, Apple TV+ posted a notice Tuesday about the upcoming teaser trailer, making it look like a calendar item for a mandatory work meeting. And sure enough, 37 minutes after the video launched Wednesday morning, more than 30,000 people had already “attended.” They saw plenty of weirdness ahead in the second season of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series, with the mysteries of Lumon Industries well in place. In the trailer, to a soundtrack of The Who’s Eminence Front, the main character returns to work despite last season’s blood-red flags and runs through the sinister company’s disturbingly sterile hallways like a mouse trapped in a maze. But instead of cheese at the end, he finds a complete mindf**k.

Directed by Ben Stiller and created and written by Dan Erickson, the show’s 10-episode second season debuts with its first episode on January 17, 2025. A new episode follows each Friday through March 21. And this is one show, maybe the only show, where I pledge to watch the whole first season again before the second one comes out. I feel like I may have missed a few thousand things, you know? It will be like replaying a fever dream knowing the next slumber, where you might finally figure it out, is coming.

What is Severance all about?

Here’s how Apple TV+ describes the show and its excellent cast:

In Severance, Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work … and of himself. In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.

Season two reunites its ensemble cast of stars, including Emmy Award nominee Scott, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, Emmy Award winner John Turturro, Academy Award winner Christopher Walken, and Academy and Emmy Award winner Patricia Arquette, and welcomes new series regular Sarah Bock.

Watch the Severance season 2 teaser trailer:

Stiller executive produces the show, from Fifth Season studio, and also directs five episodes of season two. That’s in addition to directors Uta Briesewitz, Sam Donovan and Jessica Lee Gagné. Erickson, the creator and writer of the series, also executive produces. Others in that role: John Lesher, Jackie Cohn, Mark Friedman, Beau Willimon, Jordan Tappis, Donovan, Caroline Baron, Richard Schwartz, Nicholas Weinstock, and stars Scott and Arquette.
