Just as we thought when Apple put out a Severance teaser Tuesday in Morse code saying nothing but “tomorrow,” word of a season 2 air date arrived Wednesday, along with a spooky teaser trailer. But our wishful thinking that the air date would come in fall 2024 was just that. It’s actually slated for January 17, 2025. And in the meantime, the short trailer below is worth a watch. It brings eerie Severance vibes.

Severance season 2 trailer promises spookiness ahead of January 17, 2025, premiere date

As we mentioned Tuesday, a fall 2024 debut for Severance season 2 would be most welcome, even it overlapped with the fourth season of another great Apple TV+ show, Slow Horses (slated for September 4). Instead, Severance‘s second time around, with 10 episodes, starts January 17, 2025. But at least there’s a spooky trailer to watch!

There’s not a great deal to the new teaser trailer, but it still brings the show’s trademark eccentricity and chill. It includes a fast montage of familiar characters in compromising situations, plus a reminder of what the Severance brain surgery is — it permanently separates an employee’s awareness of work and home lives. Then a frightening and unfamiliar woman abruptly appears, looking like she could have come straight from Lumon Industries’ early days. Sneering, she sternly warns some of the regular characters, “You should have left.”

Here’s Apple’s description of the show and its second season:

In Severance, Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure that surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work … and of himself. In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.

Season two reunites its ensemble cast of stars including Emmy Award nominee Scott, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, Emmy Award winner John Turturro, Academy Award winner Christopher Walken and Academy and Emmy Award winner Patricia Arquette, and welcomes new series regular Sarah Bock.
