The latest Snapchat version runs full-screen on an iPad, as the social networking service finally noticed Apple makes tablets.
Complaints aside, it’s a boon for users who can now see their friends and use silly filters on a larger display.
Snapchat gets an iPad app, at long last
Snapchat started out as an instant messaging service but has evolved into more of method for sharing short videos … AKA Stories.
An iPhone version of the app — although sometimes buggy — has been around since the company launched in 2011. This could be used on an iPhone, but the didn’t fully support the tablet.
That has finally changed with version 13.4.0.41, introduced Monday. As the release note say:
“Snapchat now offers native support for iPad! This means that Snapchat will fill an iPad’s full screen, providing you with a larger canvas when capturing Snaps and allowing you to see more friends on the 2nd and 4th tabs.
“It’s still the same Snapchat you know and love, but this time on the big
screen!”
That said, the app still only supports portrait mode. Putting the tablet into landscape means all pictures and video are taken sideways.
Grab your iPad
Still, iPad users who’ve held off installing the software on their tablet because there was little point can head to the App Store and get the bigger-and-better Snapchat version now.
It’s free to download and use, but be warned: it tracks users in many ways.
