This week’s top Apple news

On the show this week: Your host Erfon Elijah (@erfon), Cult of Mac managing editor Lewis Wallace (@lewiswallace) and Cult of Mac writer D. Griffin Jones (@dgriffinjones).

Here are the headlines we’re talking about on this week’s show:

Marvel’s What If…? shows off the promise of spatial gaming

  • Marvel Studios’ new What If…? An Immersive Story is a free app for Apple’s Vision Pro headset that combines interactivity with storytelling in a brand-new way.

iOS 18 leaks:

‘I’m a Mac’ actor returns with lamest PC ad yet

  • In a new Qualcomm ad, which promotes the company’s Snapdragon X Elite chips, former “I’m a Mac” guy Justin Long works on his MacBook at a kitchen table. Notifications keep popping up all around his head. He swats them away with irritation. Then he types in a Google search: “Where can I find a Snapdragon-powered PC?” Yeah, right.

Fight over blood oxygen feature cuts into Apple Watch sales

  • Apple Watch shipments dropped almost 20% year over year in the first quarter of 2024. Market analysts blame some of the decline on Apple being temporarily forced to halt sales due to a patent dispute over the watch’s blood-oxygenation measurement feature.

iPhone 16 Pro’s display could sport seriously small bezels

  • The iPhone 16 Pro could sport the world’s slimmest bezels on a smartphone. Its borders apparently will measure a scant 1.2 mm, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max boasting even slimmer bezels at just 1.15 mm.

Apple’s market cap passes $3 trillion … but so does Nvidia’s

  • Apple, which spent years as the world’s most valuable publicly traded company, is now in third place.
