iOS 18.2 could introduce a new feature that would tell how long your iPhone will take to charge. As of now, iPhones only show the battery percentage while charging and little else.
Almost all Android phones show the remaining time for a full charge on the lock screen when topping up their battery wired or wirelessly.
Future iOS 18 release could show your iPhone’s estimated charging time
Apple provides extensive options to prolong the battery health of iPhones. This includes setting the charge limit to anywhere between 80 to 100% on the iPhone 15 and 16 series. While these are all useful options, sometimes it is also handy to know how long your iPhone will take for a full charge.
Apple might introduce this feature in a future iOS 18 release with a helpful enhancement. 9to5Mac found code in iOS 18.2 beta 2 pointing to a new “BatteryIntelligence” framework. Reportedly, it will enable your iPhone to estimate the time needed to reach a specific battery level while charging and display a notification.
Apple’s implementation might have an advantage over Android phones
While Android phones also show the remaining time, they can only do so for a full charge. The report suggests that Apple will let users customize the charge level, displaying the estimated time remaining based on their selection.
The framework will also consider the power supplied by the adapter when calculating the remaining time. Your iPhone will take longer to charge when plugged into a slow USB-C brick. A 20W or higher adapter can speed up the time to top up the cell.
Based on the code, the feature still appears to be in the early stages of development. So, it may or may not go live with iOS 18.2’s public release, which should happen in early December. If not, Apple could release the feature as part of iOS 18.3 or iOS 18.4 next year.
