The Aukey MagFusion GameFrost Wireless Charger cools your iPhone or Android while it juices up, preventing the heat that often results from charging from damaging the battery.

I put the accessory through its paces to see how quickly it charges an iPhone 16, and how well it cools the handset.

This wireless charger uses a fan and other measures to keep your iPhone or Android cool while juicing up. That can prolong battery life.

Pros:
  • Prevents heat from damaging handset battery during recharges
  • Leaves handset’s USB-C port open while charging
  • Portable
  • Cool sci-fi look
Cons:
  • Tops out at 15W
  • Bulkier than typical Qi wireless chargers

Any handset warms up while it charges. Charging is a chemical reaction in the battery and that generates heat. Sometimes the temperature rise is too low to notice, but it’s inescapable.

Unfortunately, too much heat is bad for lithium-ion batteries. The heat causes extraneous chemical reactions that cause the battery to wear out faster than normal. One of the best ways to make your phone’s battery last as long as possible is not let it get too hot for extended periods.

But there’s a balancing act required. iPhone/Android users want fast charging, and that generates more heat. We also don’t want our batteries damaged by excessive heat, which limits the charging speed.

In my testing with both wired and wireless charging, a temperature probe tells me my iPhone 16 never gets above about 95 degrees. When it starts to get above that, charging slows to reduce the temperature.

The Aukey MagFusion GameFrost Wireless Charger acts as both a wireless charger and a fan in one. With it, I was able to keep the iPhone significantly cooler during the full charging process.

Charging puck with cool LEDs

This gizmo is a cylinder 2.5 inches in diameter and 1 inch tall that weighs 0.2 pounds. That makes it heftier than Apple’s own MagSafe charger, but then it offers tricks Apple’s doesn’t.

The look of the Aukey MagFusion GameFrost Wireless Charger seems deliberately sci-fi. There’s a button to turn on a glowing white LED and make it blink for no reason other than it looks cool.

Magnets in the base allow the device to cling to any recent iPhone. If you’re playing a game that pulls loads of power, you can keep this charger connected while you play.

Because cooling your handset while it charges is a primary goal of this accessory, there’s a built-in thermometer. The temperature appears on a small display in the center of the cylinder. This can easily switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

The charger gets power through a USB-C port. I like that that the USB-C cable isn’t built in, which makes the accessory portable.

Of course there’s a fan

There are vents on top and all around the exterior of the Aukey MagFusion GameFrost Wireless Charger. These let the fan bring in air to cool down the charger and iPhone or Android.

Fan noise depends on the speed you set it at. The lowest setting is very quiet, the next is louder, and the highest setting is definitely a bit noisy.

But there’s more to the charging puck than a fan. Its Omnia-Frez cooling system includes a Thermoelectric Cooling (TEC) chip, a critical part of the accessory. There’s also a silicone thermal pad and alloy cooling fins to increase heat dissipation.

Cools your iPhone/Android while it charges

As I mentioned, my tests show that charging with an Apple MagSafe charger or a USB-C cable can heat an iPhone up to 95 degrees. In contrast, the cooling system in the Aukey MagFusion GameFrost Wireless Charger had no problem keeping the same handset around 75 degrees while charging.

But — and this is important — that does not mean that the third-party charger juices up the iPhone any faster. That’s because it tops out at 15W. Apple’s new MagSafe charger goes up to 29W.

Nevertheless, Aukey’s charger raised the battery level in my iPhone 15 Plus about 30% every half an hour. That’s a respectable rate.

And — this is equally important — it did so without ever letting my iPhone battery get even close to a temperature that might cause those unwanted secondary chemical reactions that increase the aging speed of lithium-ion batteries.

Aukey MagFusion GameFrost Wireless Charger final thoughts

Those who have long-term plans for their iPhone or Android, and intend to keep using it for many years, should pay attention to the health of the battery. While this component is guaranteed to wear out, there’s no reason to speed up that date with excess heat.

This cooling charger from Aukey might keep your handset’s battery going and going.

But it won’t charge your iPhone any faster, which is a missed opportunity.
