The new full-size Satechi SM3 Slim Mechanical Backlit Bluetooth Keyboard builds upon the success of its compact predecessor, the SM1. But it offers Mac and Windows users enhanced functionality through a complete 108-key layout including a numeric keypad, Satechi said upon unveiling the new keeb at CES 2025.
Satechi SM3 Slim Mechanical Backlit Bluetooth Keyboard
Satechi's full-size,108-key keyboard for Mac or Windows connects to four devices, includes white LED backlighting and includes wired and Bluetooth connectivity.
- Connects to 4 devices
- Full-size keyboard with number pad
- Low-profile switches and key caps
- Less portable than smaller keyboards
- Slightly pricey
The new SM3 maintains Satechi’s commitment to sleek design with its aluminum enclosure, making it a good aesthetic match for Apple’s hardware ecosystem, according to Satechi press materials emailed to Cult of Mac. The keeb follow’s last year’s CES release of the smaller, well-regarded SM1 keyboard.
For users invested in the Apple ecosystem, the SM3 could be a nice upgrade. It offers the precision and tactile satisfaction of mechanical switches in a format that appears to complement Mac setups. The full-size layout particularly benefits professionals and power users who rely on numeric input or require additional function keys for their workflow, Satechi said.
Slim profile
Despite its full-size footprint, the keyboard retains a slim profile thanks to its low-profile proprietary brown switches and low-profile key caps. The switches deliver tactile feedback without the bulk associated with traditional mechanical keyboards, Satechi noted.
This design choice aims to reduce finger fatigue during extended typing sessions while still providing the satisfying mechanical typing experience enthusiasts crave.
Broad connectivity, customizable backlighting

Connectivity stands out as an SM3 strength. It supports up to four devices through multiple connection options. Users can easily switch between devices using either Bluetooth 5.0, a 2.4GHz USB receiver or a wired USB-C connection. That versatility makes SM3 appealing for users working across multiple Apple devices, including Macs, iPads and iPhones.
And users can personalize their typing experience through lighting. The keyboard features customizable backlighting with 14 distinct patterns, three brightness levels and four LED speed options. A 2500mAh rechargeable battery handles power management, with USB-C charging providing a reliable wired connection option when needed.
Adjustable typing angle
Ergonomics played a crucial role in the SM3’s design. It features adjustable feet that allow users to customize the typing angle for optimal comfort. The stability of these feet ensures the keyboard remains firmly in place during use.
Available in both Light and Dark color options to match various Apple and Windows setups, the Satechi SM3 Slim Mechanical Backlit Bluetooth Keyboard is available for purchase through Satechi.net at $119.99. This pricing positions it as a premium option in the Mac peripheral market, competing with Apple’s own Magic Keyboard while offering the distinct advantages of mechanical key switches and enhanced connectivity options.
